Explain ____________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ PSSA Multiple Choice PA Standard C. Continue a pattern of numbers or objects that could be extended infinitely. In the Fibonacci Sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8… What is the 10th term of the sequence? a. 15 c. 55 b. 35 d. 65

To begin solving the sequence, I drew four lines to make sure that I had ten terms in the sequence. Next, I examined the relationship between the first three numbers (1 1 2). The first and second numbers added up to the next number in the series. Then, I tested the pattern to see if it was true for the rest of the numbers. Finally, I continued the pattern by adding the two previous numbers to decide on the following number. This pattern was repeated until the tenth term was determined. The correct response is 55. _________________________________________ ____________________________ Solution 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, __, __, __, __ =2 then 1+2 =3. 2+3=5 3+5=8 5+8= = = = 55

You will be creating an ongoing project designed to strengthen your mathematics vocabulary and ultimately enhance your performance on the PSSAs. Each time you learn a new math term, add a slide to your presentation to create an electronic Philly Math Word Wall. Objective Goal Standard Communication PA Mathematical Problem Solving and Communication: Pennsylvania's public schools shall teach, challenge and support every student to realize his or her maximum potential and to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to:2.5.8.A. Invent, select, use and justify the appropriate methods, materials and strategies to solve problems.

Today’s Goal is to begin creating an electronic Philly Math Word Wall. Laptop Activity- Using PowerPoint, create a slideshow for the classroom's Philly Math Word Wall. Be Creative. Students may use free math clip art, illustrate, or use the Photo Booth camera for the visual. You are encouraged to use the Record a Sound PowerPoint feature or GarageBand to enhance the slides. Each slide needs the term, its definition, a visual and hopefully a related sound.

(Each slide must have a term, a visual and a definition. Sound is optional but highly recommended.) 1. Brainstorm a list of 8 th grade math terms. 2. Locate and open PowerPoint. 3. Type the Title and your Name on the first slide. 4. Insert a new slide. 5. Type the math term. 6. Add a visual representation. 7. Add the definition. Bonus Points will be given for adding recorded sound and or videos to your slide that enhance the words meaning. Use of Photo Booth is encouraged. Directions

Assessment Each team is to select a BEST Slide to share with the class. An in-class competition will be held to decide the winner of multiple entries per mathematic term. The winning slide will be printed, posted in the classroom, and combined to create a Best of Philly Word Wall.

Now it’s your turn to WOW us with your Word Wall!
