Your Sophomore’s Graduation Requirements 100% of our students will graduate  Credits  22 total credits in core and elective areas  Grades post to transcripts at end of semesters  Non-Credit Requirement  High School and Beyond Plan  Saved in Career Cruising  Activities every year  State Testing Requirements  Smarter Balanced ELA (10 th and 11 th grade)  Algebra or Geometry EOC  …or Smarter Balanced Math exam 11 th  Biology EOC (10 th grade)

YHS is a Great High School  6 consecutive years of increased on time graduation rate  2014 = 88.4% (11% above state average)  42% increase in performance on EOC geometry  26% increase in performance on EOC algebra  Washington Achievement Award for “High Growth” in reading/math 2013  Last year 39% of the 2015 graduates earned a 3.0 GPA or higher  2014 = 46%  55% of graduates enter college, military or trade school this fall (this will grow)

YHS is a Great High School We care deeply about our students and want them to graduate on time  Our students are accountable  Turn work in on time  % on time rate each period  3.6% increase in average daily attendance in  Attendance  3.0+ GPA = 3 or fewer absences per semester  2.0- GPA = 12+ absences per semester  Strong emphasis on “on demand” work in class  Turn in work on time  We care about your students – we want them to graduate on time

What Will be Different from 9 th Grade?  Start time/End time  7:25 a.m./1:50 p.m.  Classes are usually 55 minutes in length  5 minute passing time  Strong emphasis on staying current in each class  Communication Sources  Autodial calls  Newsletters go out electronically each month  Schedules, events, newsletters are posted to the website  Follow us on  Athletic Schedules/Info

What Will be Different from 9 th Grade?  Students can get to class in 5 minutes. Being tardy is a choice.  Cell Phones off and out of sight during class. No private use during class.  Please keep personal property at home  Our campus is used by thousands of people each week. Backpacks and personal property must be secured  Dress code issues are very important to our students. We honor ourselves, the school and community by dressing appropriately at school.  Short shorts  Stomachs, shoulders or armpits showing  Undergarments showing  Drug/alcohol insignia

 Attend School Events  Keep an eye on Family Access  Communicate questions with teachers  Quiet study place and regular study time  Sleep and food are important  Monitor social media  Encourage involvement  Encourage effort and achievement They Need You Now More Than Ever!

How Can You Get Involved?  2 way communication with teachers – phone, , conferences  Know your student’s counselor  Attend events  Chaperone events  Make school positive and important with your student  Stay informed  Autodial calls, school website, social media  Student-led conferences in spring  Use Career Cruising with your student  Explore strengths, interests and aptitudes related to college and careers  Select courses appropriate to student’s post high school plan
