Careers Teachers 2007/ ELIGIBILITY: University and ITCs The satisfactory completion of both the VCE and Units 3 and 4 English (any). Any of the four VCE English studies — English, ESL, Literature or English Language — satisfies this requirement however these units must be completed in sequence and in the same calendar year. Note: some independent tertiary colleges may accept applicants with equivalent senior secondary completion such as Senior VCAL — check with individual colleges for their entrance requirements.
Careers Teachers 2007/ ELIGIBILITY – TAFE The satisfactory completion of both the VCE and units 3 and 4 English (any) or equivalent senior secondary completion such as Senior VCAL or literacy requirements as stated in VET Training packages/curriculum. New Zealand citizens cannot apply to TAFE courses through VTAC. TAFE regards them as international students; therefore they must apply directly to the TAFE institutes. For the purposes of selection, for Current Year 12 students, the minimum tertiary entrance requirement for TAFE courses listed in this Guide is:

Careers Teachers 2007/ Payment options Type 1 courses Payment of Uni student contribution –Upfront - 20% discount –HECS-HELP for the full student contribution –Pay some and receive 20% discount –Repayment starts when you earn $39,825+ (2007/08) –Applying to Unitec you pay the New Zealand CSP TAFE Institutes –Set own fees to maximum of $860 per calendar year. –Approx $1.34 per contact hour, concessions apply –No government loan schemes for TAFE
Section Continued: Careers Teachers 2007/ Fee paying university and approved HEP courses for domestic students Course codes ending in ‘2’ –Eligibility: domestic students, Aust/NZ citizens, humanitarian VISA and permanent residents of Australia –institution sets its own tuition fee. Payment options for Type 3 course codes (International students) International students studying the VCE, VCAL or International Baccalaureate in Victoria are only eligible to apply for courses through VTAC with a course code ending in a ‘3’. If applying for International Fee-based course applicants will be liable to pay the tuition fee directly to the institution each semester or year. Careers Teachers 2007/ ENTER ENTER developed using –English/ESL or Literature or English Language –+ best three studies –+ 10% of the next best two studies Note: –An extension study can be used as a sixth study (only) –Up to two VET studies can be included in the Primary four. This principle applies to any study area –Maximum of three VET studies in the ENTER calculation. This principle applies to any study area.
Section Continued: Careers Teachers 2007/ ENTER and scaling The ENTER is based on results sent to VTAC from the VCAA Students will receive their ENTER, ENTER subject scores and Aggregate on Monday 17 December 2007 from 7am.
Section Continued: Careers Teachers 2007/ The ENTER process Study scores are scaled to ensure that a 25 in one study is equivalent to a 25 in all other studies. Once scaled, we produce ENTER subject scores. Units 3 and 4 English (any) + three other scored studies = Primary 4 Optional a fifth and sixth study ENTERs available on CourseLink to careers teachers from 4pm on Sunday 16th December. PRIVACY!! ENTERs are available via the 2007 VCE Results and ENTER Service from 7am on Monday 17 December to Current Year 12 Students. This is a joint service between VTAC and the VCAA
Section Continued: Careers Teachers 2007/ The ENTER process Students need their –VCAA student number –PIN to access the service which will operate on the internet and can be accessed for free or via the telephone service at $1.93 per minute. –Students can also receive their ENTER via SMS. Refer to page 26 of the VTAC Guide 2008 for further information.
Section Continued: Careers Teachers 2007/ The ENTER process Who gets an ENTER statement? Must be eligible Have applied through VTAC and paid all processing fees Have paid any outstanding charges or fees ENTER statements will be in the mail on 18 December. What about students who owe fees or have not applied? will only be able to view their ENTER on the web. Only when all outstanding monies are paid, can the student request an ENTER statement to be sent out. Non applicants can request an ENTER statement by downloading the form from the VTAC website, completing it and sending it in with a cheque/money order of $11.00 made payable to VTAC being for the administrative fee.

Careers Teachers 2007/ GAT and middle-band All Monash courses selecting primarily on ENTER will give consideration to applicants’ GAT results for those with ENTERs in the middle-band. If a student did not sit the GAT for whatever reason, then will still be eligible for selection on their ENTER on the same basis as before, with any middle-band and/or SEAS consideration that was previously available. –If a student sits the GAT in Year 11 and for some reason doesn’t sit the GAT in Year 12, then the Year 11 result will be used. –If the student sits in Year 11 and Year 12, then the better of the two will be used. Careers Teachers 2007/ University of Ballarat - REEP Developed a school partnership entry program for current year 12 students attending a participating secondary college, within the designated catchment regions of central and Western Victoria. Emphasis is placed on student’s potential to succeed at tertiary level Applications open 31 July Applications close 26 October 2007 Successful applicants will be notified of their offer on 3 December, prior to VCE results being published on 17 December. Careers Teachers 2007/ Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) There are two types of SEAS: Access and Equity - 9 categories (next page) and scholarships for Deakin University, Monash University, RMIT University and the University of Melbourne Year 12 Special Consideration. Note: You can only apply for SEAS after you have lodged your VTAC application
