Donating Blood Facts You Should Know Before Donating

Donor Eligibility To donate blood you must: –Be at least 17 years old –Weigh at least 100 pounds –Provide positive identification You should also eat a good meal no more than 4 hours before donating

Before You Donate Register with the nurse and read information about the process Complete the donor information form Receive a mini-physical (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood sample)

During Donation You will feel a slight twinge or pinch when needle is inserted Your donation will take about 10 minutes –You donate slightly less than a pint of blood –Adults have 10 to 12 pints

After You Donate You will be asked to rest for 10 to 15 minutes You will be given refreshments (juice, soft drink, or fruit) to help your body begin to replace fluid loss You will be eligible to donate again in 8 weeks
