"Phlebotomy" means to excise or cut into the vein of the human body. Welcome to the Phlebotomy Learning Center of CAMTECH, THE resource for phlebotomy training in Delaware. Phlebotomy Training Program.

Jump-Start Your Career in the Medical Field If you've wanted a career in the medical field but didn't want to spend 2 years in school; if you like working independently; if you like flexible hours including nights and weekends; maybe phlebotomy is for you. In about 5-8 weeks you can become certified as a Phlebotomy Technician.

PHLEBOTOMY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The word “phlebotomy” comes from the Greek and Latin and means to excise or cut into the vein. Phlebotomists literally cut into veins to remove blood, however our instrument is very small and our cuts almost microscopic.

Many people have their blood drawn before surgery, during pregnancy or when they donate blood at a blood bank. However the history of phlebotomy comes from “bloodletting. Bloodletting was done for centuries to rid the human body of evil spirits and illnesses.

Today the ART of phlebotomy is taught to healthcare workers so that your next blood draw experience at the hospital, laboratory or doctor’s office is a safe and pleasant one and so that your blood is treated properly to insure the best and most accurate results are given to your physician.

In our program, we don't require that you take several non- related courses - we focus on the core curriculum needed for a phlebotomy certificate. Whether you're sure you want to begin a fulfilling career as a phlebotomist or if you plan on choosing a different path altogether, medical training can provide you with a solid foundation on which you can build your future. If you are thinking about becoming a health care provider, you should choose a program with a proven track record.

Academics of Phlebotomy Study There are total 6 distinct areas of phlebotomy study that a student has to master before he can become a certified phlebotomy technician. The 6 major areas include: Needle technique Medical terminology Human anatomy Medical safety Record-keeping Patient rapport

Phlebotomy Certification Program The certification program offered at CAMTECH is an intensive 5-weeks day class 6 weeks in the evening and 8 weeks in weekends respectively. In classroom students attend class four time per week for hours. About ½ of the class time is devoted to lecture and about ½ of the time is devoted to lab work.

Students will draw blood on each other under the careful and skilled supervision of a Certified Phlebotomist or Nurse/ doctor Instructor.

Phlebotomy Programs are offered Phlebotomy Programs are offered on a continual basis. We have classes for Phlebotomy on Monday to Thursday day 8:30AM-2:30PM Evening from 5:00 – 9:30PM. Friday mornings from 9 AM – 1:30PM Saturday from 9AM – 1:30PM. Phlebotomy Technician Program Length Approximately 5 weeks day class, 6 weeks evening and 8 weeks weekends respectively.

The cost of the class is $ This includes a fee of $65.00 for books, supplies and a fee of $90:00 for certification. A deposit of $ will be required to hold a space in a scheduled class. A $50.00 discount will be given if tuition is paid in full on or before the first day of class.

Course Delivery Method Didactic lessons are delivered almost entirely by PowerPoint presentation with accompanying handouts. Other forms of instruction include overhead projection of materials, written information on a dry erase board, video presentations, actual case presentations, as well as scenarios and hands-on practice. The laboratory portion will be delivered in a more informal setting using hands-on practice with equipment and a student: instructor ratio of no greater than 10:1.

The student may come into CAMTECH to practice on the phlebotomy arm at any time the office is open, with appointment. Students may also bring volunteers to practice venipunctures on. The volunteer must sign a permission and waiver form. Equipment that is available for the student with which to practice is as follows: Alcohol preps, needles, needle holders, syringes, tourniquets, gauze, tape, slides and lancet

CAMTECH's Phlebotomy Technician certificate program provides training in obtaining blood specimens by venipuncture and micro collection techniques. Phlebotomy technician classes also teach you to collect and process other clinical specimens.

Qualifications for Phlebotomy Training Most states need that phlebotomist-in-training must complete 25 venipunctures, which means blood samples taken from the vein), 5 capillary draws or blood samples taken from ear, finger or any other part of the body to test the level of blood sugar.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES- PHLEBOTOMY Career Paths Phlebotomists can be employed in a variety of settings including Hospitals Doctor's offices Clinics

Many employers require at minimum, successful completion of a formal phlebotomy program. Because our program encompasses a full spectrum of sample collection, our graduates are more capable and desirable than the average applicant.

How much does a phlebotomist make? Generally a phlebotomist makes $12-14 per hour before shift differential. A shift differential is offered by many institutions as an incentive for working evenings, nights and weekends. An example of a common differential is $1 per hour for second shift (3-11pm), $1.50 per hour for third shift (11pm-7am), and $2 per hour for weekends. For example, a phlebotomist working third shift on a Saturday might make $17.50 per hour as a new Phlebotomy Technician ($14 + $ $2). More experienced phlebotomists can make more.

The Phlebotomy program is approved by the State of Delaware, Department of Education Graduates of this course will receive a certificate of completion from the program as well as national certification from the NCCT.
