1 De Bortoli Wines Solar Install

How we started In 2007 DeBortoli joined the NSW Department of Environment and Heritage Sustainability Advantage program. Created a number of sustainability projects. Were supplied with mentors and experts to give advice Found funds to subsidise energy audits 2

Energy Audits Energy audits were carried out on the winery with each metering point analysed. Usage in 30 minute intervals was analysed and solar PV sizing carried out for each point. The sizing was aimed at using at least 95% of the produced energy internally and exporting the rest to the grid. DeBortoli presently is not paid for exported power.

What the solar install was part of A small part of a $15 million project over 2 years. Aim was to replace non renewable resource with renewable. Increase energy efficiency. Replace energy inefficient equipment with energy efficient equipment.

What we decided to install 960 Hanwha Qcells Qpro solar PV modules. 220kWp 8 x PowerOne Aurora Trio Invertors The installed system is split over 3 transformers that supply power to the winery refrigeration Energy produced per annum 349 mWh. Reduction of 297 tonnes CO2 E. Equates to 4-7% energy consumed per annum.

Solar PV Install Installed flat on roof of current sheds. 7 degree slope. Loss offset against cost of frames. Issue with one shed required extensive bracing to enable shed to carry extra weight. Install completed and commissioned October Energy production to date 300,000 kWh

Solar Hot Water Solar hot water as a stand alone was investigated as the initial install was to be a cogeneration plant. Issues were: Solar PV production was low. Solar Hot water high. Cost high for specified output. Bang for buck better as standalone projects.

Installation 100 Apricus AP30 modules. (3000 evacuated tubes) 200kWp 2x6000 litre Stainless storage tanks

Installation 2 x 350kW condensing boilers to back up heat requirements Solar spec was to supply 12,000 litres water at 95c for 80% of the year. Modifications to shed to hold 14 tonne of modules and water. Total weight on roof ended up at 30 tonne

Gains Energy reduction of 1,107Gj per annum Estimate overall drop in gas needs by 20% CO2E reduction 17 tonnes per annum.

Is there a payback Solar PV estimate payback should be 3 years. Solar Hot water estimate payback in the vicinity of 6 years. We received a grant off the Federal Government that lowered the payback to 2 years and 4 years respectively We are currently on track to achieve this.

The Future Solar Hot Water Install natural gas air conditioners with heat recovery will preheat solar. Install switching system to heat tanks individually.
