Presentation transcript:

Punta Gorda, known locally as P.G., is the southern most town in Belize and the capital of the Toledo District. The population is close to 6000 people, with a mixture of Mopan and Kekchi Maya, Garifuna, Creoles, Lebanese, East Indian and Chinese peoples. PG was founded by Garifuna settlers from Honduras in 1832 and nearly half its population is still Garifuna today. The town once served as an R&R center for the British Army. After this phase ended in 1992, tourism in PG went into somewhat of a lull, though in recent years things have picked up significantly, thanks both to increasing interest in the region by casual travelers and a significant number of NGOs basing themselves in and around the town. Digging deeper one finds water quality as being really poor and the biggest local school, St. Peter Claver has over 1100 children and are in need of a living water treatment system. They already have a building that could house the unit, thus reducing the adoption cost for the project! Local support from the Catholic Church gives us additional team members that will make sure that our installation in the most southern town in Belize is going to be a success! Location: Punta Gorda, also known as P.G. is the most Southern City in the Toledo District in Belize Population: 6000 People Every 15 seconds a child under the age of five dies from a water-related illness in this world Community Information Village History Currently Searching for a donor to fund this project!
