National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA)  Draft year: 1970 to present day  No Amendment Years  National Legislation By: Ayli Tulberg, Period 3

NEPA Function and Issues  NEPA was one of the first laws written that established a national foundation to protect the environment.  NEPA’s function is to assure that all three branches of government gives proper consideration to the environment before undertaking any major federal action that could majorly affect the environment.  The Issues Affected: Requirements invoked when air ports, buildings, military complexes, highways, and parkland purchases are proposed. Requires that all federal agencies ’ funding or permitting decisions to the buildings be made with full consideration of the impact to the natural and human environment.
