French Infectious bronchitis epidemiology % of broiler production per department 830 million broilers 43 million layers 45 millions turkeys 120 million ducks ….Multi species production Infectious bronchitis viruses are circulating. Need for a good viral protection

French Infectious bronchitis epidemiology Vaccination with Mass vaccine is done on 100 % of the birds, at the hatcheries. Field boosting with either 793 B or QX are applied according to veterinarian, integration or farmer decision related to IB perceived pressure or type of broilers produced (big birds). D0 D10-D14 D16-D20 IB Mass Strain (Hatchery) IB Variant Strain (Field vaccination) 793B/QX GUMBORO We used to have this vaccination program before ibird.

French Infectious bronchitis epidemiology => Vaccination at the hatchery is not perceived as critical by the independant hatcheries => Field vaccination is usually applied by spray with no regular monitoring. Need for LDC -to get better control of vaccine & protection on the production. -to get better evaluation of epidemiological situation in real time 2 concerns with that program 12

Actions : a new vaccination program Big birds Certified birds D0 D16-D20 HATCHERY IB Vaccination. Monitoring Implementation IB Mass Strain + IB Variant strain (Cevac IBird). Hatchery GUMBORO Hatchery vaccination with Mass & 793 B vaccine (Cevac IBird) has been decided for big birds or certified birds slaughtered in 3 main LDC slaughter houses. monitoring implementation.

Results : Safety 1 out of 230 flocks with mortality before 10 days, after veterinarian visit it was due to E coli infection 17

Results : IB ELISA MEAN TITERS

Field infection > 3000, low CV Results : IBV mapping October-December 2014, 28% of the farms are challenged by a field virus (T> 3000) No vaccination< 500 1000< « normal »< 3000 Doubtfull > 3000, high CV Field infection > 3000, low CV

Field infection > 3000, low CV Results : IBV mapping December 14 – February 15 , 38% of the farms are challenged by a field virus (T> 3000) No vaccination< 500 1000< « normal »< 3000 Doubtfull > 3000, high CV Field infection > 3000, low CV

Some respiratory signs after 10 days in 9 out of 230 flocks : Results : Some respiratory signs after 10 days in 9 out of 230 flocks : 1 IB titers OK 1 positive for ORT 1 positive for MS 2 IB PCR >0 no identification possible 4 IB PCR >0 for IBird, no conclusion other cause ? 21

Conclusion Hatchery vaccination with Mass & Cevac IBird gave consistent seroconversion at slaughter It can be used as hatchery vaccination monitoring Hatchery spray application was improved with equipement setting & control Field virus circulation was detected between 28 % and 38% of the farms according to the period. Reinforced the need of a complete and well applied vaccination program in our production area. 22
