IRS Data Products: An Update SINGS Team Meeting November 2002 Baltimore, MD L. Armus SIRTF Science Center

LA - 2 SINGS Team Meeting – 21 Nov 02 What we’ve been up to Since the last meeting, the IRS team has concentrated on the following three areas:  Creation of simulated IRS BCD’s (Danny).  Basic test patterns and more realistic models based upon N6946 ISOCAM data. Have concentrated on the mechanics of re-creating the maps.  Creation of IRS cubes (J.D.).  Software to turn pipeline BCD’s into cubes & allow for intelligent map and spectral extractions (Cubeview and project manager).  Analysis of cubes and SIM data (Helene).  Critical 3 rd -party evaluation of products. Until the 1 st delivery of cubes (L+21[24]) we envision CUBISM to be a tool, run by one or more members of the IRS sub-group, for the purposes of official team deliveries and initial SSC data products.

LA - 3 SINGS Team Meeting – 21 Nov 02 IRS Agenda 1. Intro and schedule highlights (10 mins) …………………….. Lee 2. Making SIM data & Basic Mapping Strategies (30 mins).… Danny 3. How to make a cube (30 mins) ……………………………….. J.D. 4. Comparison of SIM and cube data (20 mins) ……………….. Helene 5. CubeView and the Project Manager (30 mins) ……………… J.D. 6. Overall data flow (15 mins) ……………………………………. Lee

LA - 4 SINGS Team Meeting – 21 Nov 02 Important SINGS-SSC Milestones  The 1 st set of 1D spectra get delivered at L+9 [12] (only two months after the archive opens). These will be “best post-BCDs”, i.e. not derived from the cubes.  This is only 2 months after the archive opens, so we will not have much time to generate and validate the data.  The work will involve re-running the pipeline with non-standard extractions, de-fringing, co-adding source and “background” spectra, etc.  Our 1 st maps get delivered at L+15 [18]. These will be derived from the nuclear, HII and radial strip cubes for 1/3 of the sample or what’s in archive at L+12 [15].  We must make these maps from L+12  13 [15-18] to have enough time for team review and one iteration.  Our 1 st cubes get delivered at L+21 [24]. These will include 1/3 of sample or what’s in archive at L+18 [21]. Another map delivery (second 1/3) also occurs at this time.

LA - 5 SINGS Team Meeting – 21 Nov 02 Product Definitions 1D spectra (best BQDs) - Start with a set of de-fringed 1D spectra. - Find the peak spectrum at 12  m (SH and SL), 25  m (LH), and co-add 3x3 spectra around (and including) this peak. This is the “source spectrum”. - Co-add the rest of the map spectra to create the local background. Subtract this from the source spectrum. - All results will be checked by hand (e.g. de-fringing, avoiding finding source near edge of map, etc.) High-res maps - continuum-subtracted maps of the NeII 12.8  m (  =22 eV), NeIII 15.6  m (  =41 eV), and SiII 34.8  m (  =8 eV) lines will be produced. Continuum maps will also be provided.

LA - 6 SINGS Team Meeting – 21 Nov 02 Product Definitions PAH feature maps - no adjacent continuum subtraction will be performed. (features will dominate, and the 1D spectra will allow an easy determination of continuum-only sources) 1D map spectra - created from 2D spectral maps. Spectral cubes - one cube per (sub) slit, created with CUBISM tool. - there will be no spatial smoothing, but they may have a single spectral resolution (under discussion).

8 SINGS team mtg. – 10 Jan 2002 CUBISM Milestones  The 1 st functional CUBISM interface was scheduled for 30 Sept We are a bit behind schedule, but will have demo today !  We planned on having an Alpha internal SINGS team release in mid- Dec., but this will have to be pushed back to late Jan  early Feb. It will coincide with a first team-wide release of CubeView.  Most of our delay is due to tackling tricky issues (e.g. separation of spatial and spectral pixels) and the evolving definitions of BCD formats, headers, etc. at the SSC.
