Presentation transcript:

Newton’s 1 st Law Inertia An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at constant velocity unless acted on by an unbalanced force. Think  Seat Belts!! If you are NOT wearing your seatbelt and you get hit from behind, your body will propel forward hitting the windshield.

Newton’s 2 nd Law F net = ma If an unbalanced force acts on a mass, that mass will accelerate in the direction of the force. You must have a (Δv/ t = a) 2 N 8 N a Since 8N is greater than 2N, the unbalanced force is to the right so the acceleration is to the right. What is the resultant force?

Newton’s 3 rd Law Action - Reaction For every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. Example: If you punch a wall with your fist in anger, the wall hits your fist with the same force. That’s why it hurts! Action-reaction forces cannot balance each other out because they are acting on different objects.

Let’s get some formulas ready to use on the problems. 1. Big 5 Kinematic Equations 2. Acceleration formula 3. Force Formula 4. Weight = Fg=ma 5. Pythagorean Th. 6. Inverse Tangent(TOA)

Acceleration on the “y” = a y Fg = wt = mg use 9.8m/s 2 to calculate ( mg ) Reminder: F g = m x g N = kg x m/s 2

Acceleration on the “x” = a x d = Vi t + ½ a t 2  a = 2 d t 2 Vf 2 = Vi ad  a = Vf 2 - Vi 2 2d 0 0

Acceleration can be solved…. Basic formula a = Δv t
