Bridget Bishop First victim!
Who was Bridget Bishop? Born between 1632 and 1637 Married three times. Her third and final marriage after the deaths of her first two husbands. Married to Edward Bishop, a sawyer. Had no children from the previous marriages.
Why was she accused? Flamboyant life style and exotic manner of dress Entertained guest until late at night drinking. A mistress of two thriving taverns in town.
How was she viewed in Salem? Bridget was accused for her obstructive life style. She played forbidden games like shovel board. She fought with her various husbands
Tried and Executed The Trial She denied being a witch She denied making a contract with the devil She found guilty and hanged.
She was the first of many to be hanged for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts.
