 Spring 2011 – STI Decided to move to a 16 week semester  Ed Des & Delivery looked at ways to help reduce the effect of losing two weeks of school ◦ Previous events  Piloted retention program in Programming/Networking/ET  LPN BootCamp  Laptop Days

 Three main sessions utilizing the LMS ◦ Laptop Session  STI Laptop  BYOD (bring your own device) ◦ Student Success Session  Financial Session  General Info Session ◦ Program Orientation Session  Program/Division Expectations  Handbooks  Safety Tests  Attendance

 Committee was created ◦ Admissions ◦ Student Success ◦ IT ◦ Academic Training ◦ Administration ◦ Registrar ◦ Administrative Assistant to the President  Future meetings will bring in more of the individuals directly responsible

 JumpStart Schedule just like regular fall schedule ◦ Week prior in Fall and day prior in Spring ◦ Students have the JumpStart classes on their schedule  Admissions Support ◦ Entered students into the JumpStart classes ◦ Talked to them about the purpose of the JumpStart classes ◦ Required classes  75 Minute Laptop/Student Success  Program Orientation varied (225 Minute/2 Day)

 Scheduled Lunch  STI has done a total order and individual order ◦ STI hopes to have the food sponsored for the entire week in the Fall  Minimal breakfast and snacks

 Sponsors provide food or resources

 Communication is vital to this event and communication was done through several factors. ◦ Student Schedules had the times and meeting places of all the classes. ◦ Student schedules were printed the night before and distributed to program faculty so every student had a schedule (required to pick up the laptop). ◦ Reminder post-cards went out to the students a month before the event to have them mark the date. ◦ Signage was put up across campus highlighting key areas for students. ◦ Signage was put up across campus recognizing vendors who donated. ◦ Signage was put up in buildings directing student groups. ◦ Student Success/Student Government met students in our building with laptops to provide schedules to walk-ins, give directions, help solve student issues.

 Student ID’s ◦ Mobile Camera in Tech Center  Student Schedule ◦ Provided to faculty the night before  General Sessions for late students

 A survey was done of students and staff the first year and then only staff the second year.  Results of the survey are compiled into a Powerpoint presentation in this class.
