«Anton Pavlovich Chekhov – one of the most wonderful writers on the world» А.А.Fadeev

The aim: to know and to learn about interesting facts about life and creative work of outstanding Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (29 January 1860 – 15 July 1904) was a Russian physician, dramaturge and author who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history. His career as a dramatist produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high respect by writers and critics. Chekhov practised as a medical doctor. «Medicine is my lawful wife», he once said, «and literature is my mistress».Along with Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg, Chekhov is often referred to one of the three seminal figures in the birth of early modernism in the theater.

Chekhov has chosen a profession of a country doctor, but he could make a successful career as a graduate of Moscow State University. When a local doctor Chekhov was young, he was known as «Antosha Chekhonte» in the literature. And in later years he was at the height of literary fame. However, Chekhov was a good doctor, one day, either in jest or seriously, he even said that he could have saved the Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, not as a writer but as a medic.

About his life Chekhov wrote unwillingly and only officially. «I have a disease:avtobiografyfobiya» confessed it in Read about myself any details, and even more writing for print - for me it is a true torture." But a lot of notebooks works, his letters, memories of his contemporaries and photos - more than enough material to discover Chekhov. This will help make the facts about the writer's life.

Fact №1 "As a child I had no childhood," - said the Chekhov. "Despotism and lies mangled our childhood to the extent that scared to remember" - Chekhov wrote to his brother in In Chekhov’s childhood his father, Pavel Yegorovich, held retail shop. Life of young Anton and his brothers took place between the work in the shop, opened from 5 am to 11 pm, gymnasium and endless rehearsals in the church choir, organized by Pavel Yegorovich. In addition, all children learnt the craft, Anton - tailoring.

Fact №2 Chekhov was high, a real "Russian hero." In selling the ticket, issued in 1879, Taganrog philistine council, marked increase in Chekhov: 2 feet of 9 inches (180 centimeters above). A stereotype about "low and slim Chekhov" firmly sat down among people. Actor Yury Yakovlev (whose growth is 187 centimeters), who played Chekhov once had the opportunity to try authentic Chekhov's jacket and was very surprised that the he "just."

Fact №3 A crater on Mercury was named in honor of Chekhov. The crater, named after the writer Chekhov is one of the many craters of the planet, bearing the names of Russian culture and science. Among them are Derzhavin, Dostoyevsky, Lermontov, Musorgsky, Pushkin, Repin, Andrei Rublev, Stravinsky, Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky.

Return to the Sakhalin Island. Chekhov and midshipman G.N.Glinka with mongooses Fact №4 Chekhov “discovered" the island of Sakhalin for the Russian. In 1890, Chekhov made the hardest trip to Sakhalin - the island for exiled murderers. In the end of the trip Chekhov wrote the release of the book "From Siberia" and "Sakhalin Island (From the travel notes)," in which Chekhov described an intolerable life of convicted and arbitrary bureaucracy. "Sakhalin - this place is unbearable suffering...- wrote he

Fact №5 Chekhov preserved almost all the letters addressed to him. Chekhov mentioned once, that does not like to write letters, but in the 30-volume academic collection of works, there are about 4 thousand letters - 12 volumes. Presumably, for about 2 thousand letters did not preserved.

Fact №6 Literary fame came to Chekhov after the publication of the book «Motley Stories». Chekhov also wrote many creations such as «Three Sisters», «Horse Name», «The Cherry Garden», «Lady with the dog» and others.

Fact №7 Chekhov loved Tchaikovsky’s music very much.Relationship of Chekhov and Tchaikovsky began in 1888: as it turned out, the famous composer knew and loved the creativity of the young writer. Chekhov himself has repeatedly confessed that he loved the music of Tchaikovsky. "I am ready to stand guard of honor at the porch of the house where he lives Tchaikovsky day and night, that's how much I respect him," - he wrote.

Fact №8 Chekhov liked to "edit" the wrong stories and call it exercise for the mind. Chekhov’s letters of 80s admitted that he loves the "edit" works of others - even Suvorina asked him to send "grinding" stories of "New time", and later became for him a series of edit “Saturdays" and served as editor of stories unknown authors for the magazine "Russian idea".

Fact №9 Chekhov died on the night of July 2, 1904 on the hands of his wife.On July 3 (old style) newspaper "Russian Newspaper" wrote: «the night of the 2nd of July, at 3am, a well-known writer Anton Chekhov died of heart failure in the arms of his wife's, in Germany, Badenweiler». Fact №10 World fame came to Chekhov after his death, in the twenties of the last century.«People will read my story`s seven years, seven and a half, and then forgotten," - he said. But Chekhov was wrong – people began to read, edit, play.

Thanks to the plays of Chekhov, russian drama was famous all over the world and had a very great importance to the development of theater and literature in the twentieth century.
