2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting The ACRIN Accrual Project at University of Washington Constance Lehman, MD. PhD David Mankoff, MD. PhD Tiffany Wong, MS

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting Difficulty assigning staff for protocol start-up Difficulty identifying and consenting patients prior to therapy Delay in start-up due to scientific and IRB reviews Delay in completing qualifying procedures for start up Key Barriers to Accrual for ACRIN Trials:

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting A dedicated ACRIN coordinator for study start-up, maintenance and accrual support. Support for junior faculty actively engaged in ACRIN committees and clinical trials. A local institutional website as a resource for UW/SCCA ACRIN investigators. Main Components of the Accrual Project:

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting Increases the efficiency and speed of study activation, while decreasing the burden on site PIs. Provides support to site PIs and junior faculty. Provides support for ongoing trial maintenance. Coordinates resources for start-up and study accrual using a site-specific website. Integrates imaging into oncology practice at the trial center. How the Accrual Project Addresses the Barriers

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting ACRIN Accrual Project Coordinator Accrual Support Project Coordination Data Coordination Back-up Support Attends tumor board. Maintains communication with clinic coordinators and clinicians to identify participants. ACRIN Trials: Serves as primary coordinator for a trial by providing support on all aspects of project activities. ACRIN Trial: 6685 Assists transfer of image files to ACRIN. Ensures protocol compliance of technologists. Receives patients and collects form data at the imaging appointments. ACRIN Trials: Assists ACRIN trial primary coordinators in conducting study activities. Serves as a back-up when primary coordinators are not available. ACRIN Trials: Administrative Support Assists new scanner qualification. Develops local ACRIN website. Organizes local site meetings for ACRIN trials. Sets up centralized data transfer mechanism. Assists faculty who are interested in starting an ACRIN trial. Responsibilities of Project Coordinator

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting Project status of ACRIN Trials at UW

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting Future Website for the UW-ACRIN Accrual Project

2011 ACRIN Annual Meeting Summary The ACRIN accrual project coordinator provides supplemental staffing support for P.I.’s and junior faculty in study start-up, maintenance and accrual. The accrual coordinator can serve as a central contact for multiple projects; and as a liaison between the academic center and ACRIN. A local ACRIN website is a clearinghouse for essential institution-specific study development tools. The UW ACRIN Accrual Project is a model system that addresses the unique barriers to research common to large academic centers.
