What is an avatar? An avatar is a computer user’s representation of himself or herself. We need to be careful when representing ourselves in any form online. You do not want to use a photograph of yourself that might identify you to others how you look, how old you are or where you live. You also do not want to name your avatar with your full name. First names are defining without being revealing, unless you have a very unique first name.

Time for an Activity

Activity Let’s teach each other about various countries Take the next 15 minutes to edit your wiki’s text, add links, and add an image or a video clip.

Things to Consider Have a legitimate and sustainable educational purpose for creating the site. Do not publish any personal, identifiable information on students on wiki or blog sites. Do not publish addresses. Think about the process of creating content and editing the wiki site. Remember this may involve collaborative publishing.

Things to Consider Define and divide the task amongst the students involved. Make sure you do the pre-planning.

Things to Consider Make sure you acknowledge any references used and copyright issues are addressed. Get clearance from the school administration. At the end of the project, if the sites are no longer needed then remove them.
