American Airlines When the bearings in these fans fail, there will occasionally be contact between the impeller and shroud, as well as contact between the rotor and stator. Friction caused by this contact will produce a “burnt” smell and smoke. Safety procedures dictate that when smoke is smelled in an aircraft, you must land as quickly as possible Airplanes use electric fans to circulate both cooling air for avionics and conditioned air for passengers. Develop a modification to the fan so that bearing failures will not produce smoke or any kind of burnt/burning odor. Recirc Fan
