Calculating ESOL Minutes Why it is Important! The district receives extra funding for students receiving ESOL services, if the school provides appropriate documentation. Documentation includes appropriate courses and teacher ESOL training guidelines. The minutes identified in the LEP Plan must match the students ESOL schedule minutes.

Calculating ESOL Minutes ESOL funding should be requested for the amount of time students are being taught courses eligible for ESOL funding as identified by DOE courses eligible for ESOL weighted funding can be found at Basic funding should be requested for all courses not in the ESOL appropriate course listing as identified by DOE. ESE funding overrides all ESOL funding, so if the student is ESE and ESOL, all courses will have the appropriate ESE FEFP code.

Steps required to identify ESOL fundable courses and calculating minutes! Print out latest DOE listing of courses eligible for ESOL weighted FTE. Print out the students schedule. The schedule must include course number, by-period minutes and teacher. Identify if teachers of courses eligible for ESOL weighted FTE are within their ESOL training timeline. (The ESOL Coordinator can help with this determination.) The following slide is an example of a possible high school schedule and a calculation of ESOL minutes. What is not shown is the step where the school finds out if the teachers are within their ESOL training timeline.
