Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 2 Get needed resources fast! In an emergency, critical information and services are needed throughout the response. n The necessary resources must be activated quickly to enable the best-possible, most- informed response to the situation. n Best practices include: l A means of accessing known key resources and l Resource request messages forwarding to appropriate support providers

June 11, 2009 Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 3 Gathering and aggregating data Data aggregation improves understanding of information in context. l Better information awareness l Better information presentation (visualization tools) l Better information usage

June 11, 2009 Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 4 Emergency Management Information Needs n Cleanly Cross Domains l Connect correct information NOW! l Information services l Reasoning services l Action services n Data Exchange Support l Sharing policies l Distribution assignment l Creating Common Operating Picture l Scope and view accounting

June 11, 2009 Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 5 National Building Information Model Standard (NBIMS) Vision NBIMS Vision: Improved process l using a standardized machine-readable information model l containing all appropriate information about a facility l formatted to be useable throughout its life-cycle l for all participants needing knowledge about the facility. Vision Statement: An improved planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance process by using a standardized machine-readable information model for each facility, new or old, which contains all appropriate information created or gathered about that facility in a format useable throughout its life-cycle by all.

June 11, 2009 Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 6 National BIM Standard Definition of BIM – buildingSMART Official Definition: A Building Information Model (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. As such it serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle from inception onward.

June 11, 2009 Connectivity Week 2009 – OASIS: Integrated Emergency Management – Michelle A Raymond 7 Process and Information Flow n Business Processes l Interfaces to business processes at the core of NBIMS l Standardizing commonly-recognized relationships l Identify information needing to flow through the model l Make information available to appropriate parties n Formalizing information flows will: l Identify authoritative sources for information l Ensure that correct data is collected l Data need only be entered once into the model
