Art work and hand proof pulls for Allen Lane's 1945 edition of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Some of the drawings include pencil notes in Grant's hand. Includes part of the printed text of the poem with notes, as well as an envelope addressed to Duncan Grant marked "Proofs for the Ancient Mariner." 15 items
One typescript letter signed by Virginia Woolf from Monk's House, dated December 17th, 1939, and one manuscript postcard written on Leonard Woolf's stationery, also signed by Virginia Woolf. In the letter Virginia Woolf replies to a question proposed by Heffer regarding the usefulness of propaganda and empathizes with his life in camp. She offers to send him a copy of Leonard Woolf's recently published Barbarians at the Gate and any of her own works. Virginia Woolf writes in her postcard, which most likely accompanied the books mentioned in the previous letter, that she cannot publish Heffer's poems and suggests that he try the Daily Telegraph.
Ronald Heffer was an aspiring author who wrote poetry and prose about vegetarianism and slaughterhouses
Letter, [1933] May 4, 52 Tavistock Square [London] to [Bianca Weiss]. Autograph letter, signed, mainly in Italian, discussing Woolf's upcoming trip to Italy and other matters, from Virginia Woolf to her Italian teacher, Bianca Weiss. Weiss' name is not given in the letter; she is addressed as "Carissima Signora." The teacher's identity is found in an earlier letter from Woolf to Vita Sackville-West (February 14, 1933; published in The Letters of Virginia Woolf, ed. Nicolson, V, pp. 157, 175).
