Coach Elliott’s Physical Education class syllabus E.T. Booth Middle School

The E.T. Booth Physical Education Philosophy The students at Booth will be offered an array of activities. They will have an opportunity to engage in various team sports, individualized lifetime activities, movement and fitness education. Students will develop motor skills, gain knowledge of rules, history, etiquette and strategies of games and activities Students will learn the importance of health and physical education.

Program Objectives Each child will have an equal opportunity to participate in all phases of the Physical Education Program. To develop skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities and to build favorable attitudes and behaviors about physical education. To provide activities facilitating the total development of the middle school child (physically, socially and mentally). To aid in the development of a positive self concept through successful learning experiences.

Rules of the Gym Students will enter the gym and go directly to their roll call area. Tennis shoes only. No shoes or boots on the gym floor. No books or book bags in the gym. No food, drink or gum in the gym area. Do not touch any equipment that may be set up in the gymnasium. No horseplay on or near the bleachers. Do not hang on the basketball rims or nets. Do not leave the locker room until dismissed to the gym. Please refrain from wearing jewelry during P.E. class. Get to class on time…remember, tardies add up so don’t be late!

P.E. Rules for Outside 1.Do not play on the steps or slide down the rail. 2.Do not climb on the fence. 3.No rock throwing! 4.Stay of the plants, flowers and shrubs. 5.Do not drift away from your class area. 6.Please clean off your shoes upon entering the building. 7.Do not cut through the gym after being outside. 8.Students are to re-enter the building through the designated door. 9.Do not interrupt other classes or interfere with other classroom areas. This includes the classrooms in the trailers. 10.Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Locker room guidelines Students may rent a lock for $1.00 and use any locker for the entire year. Locker rooms will be locked and no one will be permitted to re-enter during the class period. Lock up all valuables and money. No horse play or running. No dressing in the shower or toilet areas. The shower area is off limits unless of course you are showering. Remain in the locker room until you are dismissed. No throwing debris in the locker room. Put trash in the trash cans. Arrive, get dressed for P.E., and sit down.

Grading Policy Students will be graded based on participation (being cooperative, staying on task, following directions, sportsmanship, dressing out in proper attire, skills and written work. Dressing out for class 40% Participation 40% Tests and or quizzes 10% Miscellaneous work 10%

Excuses 1.Must be confirmed by a physician's statement specifying the type of illness or injury, nature and duration of the restriction. 2.A doctor’s excuse excuses the student from dressing out. 3.A parental excuse for restrictive participation of short duration (no more than 2 days) must be dated and illness specified. 4.During this time, modified activities such as reading or research may be assigned.

Lost and Found Articles of clothing left in the gym or locker room will be placed in the lost and found bin. Anything not claimed at the end of the quarter will be donated to charity. Please label all clothing and shoes and lock up valuables.
