The Blueberry Spa A service learning project for sophomore nursing students providing patients at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital regular opportunities for spa services
The Spa The Beginning –In January, 2003 with financial support from an Elsie Bowle Ewing Grant the Blueberry Spa opened.
Student Objectives Experience the therapeutic use of self Practice healing touch Experience the “art of nursing”
Patient Objectives Increase sense of well-being Relaxation Decrease in pain and anxiety
Spa Services Manicures
Spa Services Pedicures
Spa Services Barbershop shaves
Spa Services Additional services: –Hair styling –Massages –Paraffin wax baths for hands
Spa Activities 5 sessions have been held patients have attended each session 5 – 6 nursing students participate each session with 2 CON faculty/CHRH staff supervising
Spa Outcomes Patients report an increased sense of well-being improved relaxation a decrease in discomfort, anxiety, and pain
Spa Outcomes Students experience the positive outcomes from therapeutic use of self and healing touch.
New Objectives Students from Nursing and other Allied Health disciplines will work cooperatively and collaboratively to provide spa services.
New Objectives Nursing students will report increased interaction with staff.
