Why regional perspectives? mHealth may have direct impact on the medical and care services provided by regions responsible for planning, financing and delivery of healthcare Having, in accordance, direct impact on the quality of and the way of organizing, staffing, financing, developing and delivering health- and medical care to regional citizens and visitors

Health and medical care in Region Västra Götaland shall be: Safe Patient focused Knowledge based Equal Offered in acceptable time Effective

Possibilities Support the six characteristics of care Raise efficiency (better healthcare per krona) Support three major trends in healthcare –Integrated care –Clinical guidelines –Patient centeredness Support exchange of healthcare experiences

Obstacles Practical difficulties –Reimbursement for mhealth services –Legal and responsibility issues –Develop solid business models involving mhealth

mHealth Helpline (in Sweden: phone 112, 1177 and web Education and awareness Diagnostic and treatment support at points of care Remote monitoring Remote data collection Communication and training for healthcare workers Disease and epidemic outbreak tracking
