A Note from the Principal As the calendar days move us closer to the Christmas season, we can also expect colder weather. As a result, it is important that our children are dressed appropriately for the weather. Winter coats, gloves, and stocking hats are often a necessity. Please be sure to label all of your child’s clothing. As stated on page 22 of the student handbook: We believe it is important for children to get to go outside and play, so we will follow the Children’s Hospital guidelines for weather restrictions on taking children outside when possible: Above 32 degrees – children can stay outside for an unlimited amount of time 20 to 32 degrees – children can stay out 10 – 15 minutes 10 – 20 degrees – children can stay out 5 minutes 10 degrees or below – children should not go outside **Temperature includes wind chill** Of course, we will try to honor a parent’s request to keep a child inside who may be a little “under the weather.” We do ask parents to help their children watch the weather forecast and make appropriate decisions regarding dress. Winter is almost here! We will be using School Reach (formerly Blackboard Connect) calling system to notify parents when there is a school cancellation. We have already utilized this system once with our November 17 snow day. If you are not signed up for our automated calling system, or if you have changed phone numbers since the beginning of school, please call the office or send a note so we can update our Student Information System. VISION: Every DA Mallory Elementary School student will be prepared to succeed in the next grade level. Mission: Building a Better ME It is our hope that as we each individually strive to be a better “me,” we will collectively be striving to make a better Mallory Elementary. Mallory Memo 1 Jan Brett is an American illustrator and writer of children's picture books. She is known for colorful, detailed depictions of a wide variety of animals and human cultures ranging from Scandinavia to Africa. Since many of her books have a winter theme, we are celebrating one of our favorite authors during our December 4 th Title I Family Night from 5 to 7 PM. Come and join us for a fun filled night of Jan Brett activities with hot cocoa, sugar cookies, and hot apple cider! PTO will be sponsoring Santa’s Workshop the week of December 8 th. This is an opportunity for our students to shop for a gift for a friend from a variety of items. Volunteers from the PTO will help your child select a gift and they will wrap the gift for your child. Watch for the PTO flyer for more information. Friday, December 19 th will be an early (1:15) dismissal. There will be no school Monday, December 22 nd through Friday, January 2 nd -2015!
