 1989 AOL for Macintosh launched  1991: the internet is born  February 1991 AOL for DOS is launched 

  : internet usage increases from 1.8 to 9.1 hours on average   June 15th, 1993 the first tools to create and view PDF (Portable Document Format) files were released. PDF’s allow documents to be sent securely and preserve the authenticity of the document, in essence a pdf is a copy of the original document and can be viewed by anyone who has Adobe pdf reader installed on his/her computer.   August 24th, 1994 MSN Messenger and its network of services are launched.   1996 Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC launch their online presence (October 19th, October 22nd, and December 20th respectively)

  June 20th 2000 CNN launches its first webpage   Cable News Network focused on up to the minute news events and expanded through its online presence

 February 12th 2004 thefacebook is launched on the campus of Harvard University.  Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with the assistance of Andrew McCollum and Eduardo Saverin.  May 2007 announced facebook’s transition from a closed network to “the social operating system of the internet”. This has allowed facebook to become a social tool on campuses as originally intended, but also by employers
