Seasons What do you know about seasons?. Seasons  A season is one of the major divisions of the year, generally based on yearly periodic changes in weather.
24.2 Sun and Seasons
Seasons. What Causes Seasons? Seasons are caused by the tilt of the earth’s axis as it moves around the sun. Seasons happen because the Earth is tilted.
Earth in Space Section 1-1 P
Earth’s Seasons. Rotation 1.The imaginary line that passes through Earth’s center and the North and South poles is called Earth’s axis. 2.Earth spinning.
Created by Shannon Dodds. Rotation  The Earth rotates about its axis in a ________________direction.  The Earth makes one rotation every _______. This.
Days, Years & Seasons. Days and Nights Rotation: the Earth turns around on its axis 1 day=24 hours (one rotation) One half of the Earth is always in light.
Why do we have day and night?. Earth’s rotation  The Earth rotates on its axis (imaginary vertical line around which Earth spins) every 23 hours & 56.

Earth in Space. How Earth Moves Earth moves through space in two major ways: rotation and revolution.
Reason for Seasons Aim: How does the tilt of Earth’s axis and Earth’s movement cause seasons?
Seasons. Seasons happen because of Earth’s tilt on its axis AND revolution around the Sun. Axis- imaginary line drawn from the north to the south pole.
 Earth moves in 2 ways: Rotation (spinning of the Earth’s axis) and Revolution (Movement of one body in space around another)  Earth’s rotation causes.

Mini Lesson: The Reasons for Seasons

What Discuss Today Some Seasons of Interest Definition of Seasons Three important “Reasons for Seasons”

Engage: What “Seasons” can you name? Flu Season Hunting Season Growing Season Shopping Season

Notes: Definition of Seasons Divisions of the year, marked by changes in sunlight and precipitation Temperate and Polar Regions Changes in amount of sunlight (intensity/duration) that reaches Earth's surface may cause animals to go into hibernation or migrate, and plants to be dormant. Four Seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Tropical and Sub-Tropical Regions Changes in precipitation Rainy season and dry season

NOTES: The Reasons for Seasons The Main factors that cause the Seasons 1.Energy from the Sun (without the Sun there would be no seasons) 2.Shape and Axis of the Earth Earth is an “Oblate Spheroid” Earth Rotates on a Tilted Axis Sunlight Rays can be Concentrated or Spread Out (direct rays) (indirect rays) So… more energy with direct rays less energy with indirect rays

3.Orbit of the Earth Around the Sun Hemisphere receiving longer hours of Sun So… longer hours of incoming energy Summary Direct Rays and more hours of daylight= Indirect Rays and less hours of daylight = Summer Winter
