Habits of Mind METACOGNITION

Day 1: Metacognition  Discuss with your pair partner the meaning of this HOM.  Discuss why metacognition is an important tool to use in class, in social situations, in decision making. Who Wants to be a Millionaire Video Clip:

Day 2: Metacognition Teacher Notes  Students will discuss with their pair partner a given brain teaser, using either audible metacognition or the “jumping to conclusion technique as indicated on their handout, to determine their answer. Students will discuss as a class their experience by responding to the following questions:  How was using metacognition different mentally/psychologically than “jumping to the conclusion” without assessing the factors?  Evaluate your confidence level once a conclusion was reach using the given technique.

Day 3: Metacognition Teacher Notes  Students will discuss with their pair partner a new given brain teaser, using only techniques of metacognition.

Day 4: Metacognition Teacher Notes  Students will discuss with their pair partner a new given brain teaser, using only techniques of metacognition.

Day 5: Metacognition Write a brief summary of the implications of metacognition in completing tasks, drawing conclusions, making decisions, and interacting with others.
