 Dates: August 25th – September 11th, 2015 (including Add/Drop period)

 50% of tuition should be paid before classes begin  The rest should paid before October 31 st, 2015  Student may apply for late tuition payment, for details please address the Financial Aid Office, room #137

 Each of you should have a checklist that was distributed by your department at the Orientation Week.  Before each registration follow your checklist independently and see your advisor if you have questions.  Please address office managers in case you do not have checklists

 30 credits hours of Sport  6 audit credits –it is not required, but possible to audit the classes in addition to required 30 credits of semester load but consult with your advisor first  Credit load will be increased after completion of the first year of studies. Student can have up to 33 credits (3 additional credits) each semester.

 You have a chance to audit the classes. If you select a course and see available audit seats, it means you may audit the current class. If you can’t register for audit it means this course is not available for audit.

 Every student should check a prerequisite for each class.  Prerequisites are classes you need to take before you can move on to another class. Often it is a move to more advanced class. For example, you cannot take FYS 216, if you have not taken FYS 100.  The other example: psychology 101 needs to be taken before psychology 250.

 Please remember, if you took psychology 101 and failed it, it means you did not pass the prerequisite requirement and you cannot take more advanced course like psychology 250.

 List of available classes is posted on the AUCA website.  The classes are listed on the Registrar’s Office page – FALL 2015 Registration  The link to the available classes VKA%20FALL%202015(new).pdf VKA%20FALL%202015(new).pdf

 FYS I – 8 credits +  Kyrgyz Language as a part of FYS I – 2 credits +  Russian Language as a part of FYS I – 2 credits  Please note that students should register for FYS I and for Kyrgyz and Russian Languages as part of FYS, separately. Please make sure that FYS I and Kyrgyz and Russian Languages as part of FYS I are of the same section.  Also please note that Kyrgyz and Russian Languages as part of FYS I will be in time conflict, and it is the way it should be

 FYS II – 10 credits  +  Manas Studies as a part of FYS II – 2 credits  No connection to History of Kyrgyzstan

 Student who fail FYS part I (Receives ‘F’ grade), should take it in Fall Remember, FYS part I is offered only in Fall semesters.  If you fail FYS II, please remember to retake the class in Spring FYS II is offered only in Spring semester.

 Students whose English language placement level scores indicate the need for additional work in English or reading comprehension will take FYS 101 in the fall semester as well as a special course in Intensive Academic English (IAE).  Students will be notified which section of FYS to register for at Orientation.  List of students that will need to take the FYS 101 is already available.

 According to the AUCA/BARD requirements, all students must take 12 credits (two semester-long courses) in this category.  However students from Applied Math, BA, ECO, EMSD (in LAS) and SFW should not take General Education math courses. They fulfill their requirements in this area as part of their program requirements.  Students in IBL do not technically need to take a second math course to graduate. However, they do need to take a second course in this area if they wish to receive the Bard Certificate.

Math for Life I – is 1 st math course for ANTH, ES, IBL, ICP, JMC, and LAS student who do not plan to transfer to BA, ECO, AMI, or SFW departments Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics I – is 1st math course for students from ANTH, ES, IBL, ICP, JMC, LAS, PSY, and SOC who would like to transfer to BA, ECO, AMI, or SFW Introduction to Probability and Statistics – for PSY and SOC students strongly recommended, since this course has a link the second Math course they have to take (SPSS). Also this class could be taken as a 2 nd math class for ANTH, ES, IBL, ICP, JMC and LAS, who is not planning to transfer to BA, ECO, AMI or SFW

 As a part of the General Education Requirements you study Kyrgyz Language (2 credits) and Russian Language (2 credits) which are covered in FYS I.  In addition, you should take 6 credits of Kyrgyz Language Course and 6 credits of Russian Language Course.

 There are double counted courses: ART/RUS, ART/KYR, HIST/RUS, HIST/KYR, etc.  If you see course with double code you can cover requirements for two courses. For example by taking course “Echo of The Past: Soviet Sci-Fi in Film” with code RUS/ART you can cover both Russian language requirement and Art requirement.  Please pay attention to the level of language of offered course. The level will be indicated.

 Korean (part I)and Japanese (Part I) are offered in Fall In Spring 2016 student continues taking part II of the selected language.  German, French and Spanish (Part I) are offered in Fall In Spring 2016 student continues taking part II of the selected language. If the student would like to take an intermediate level course (as Part I), s/he must first take a test at European Studies department.  Chinese and Arabic are offered in Fall The same scenario applies for these two languages. In Spring 2017 student continues taking part II of the selected language.

 No Arabic (part I), and Chinese (part I) in Fall Please plan taking these languages in Fall 2016.

 If you are planning to take one of the above languages, you have to learn the selected language two semesters.  The main idea: it is not academically useful to take only one semester of any languages. Students will not receive a credit for taking only one semester.

 At the end of the first semester of language study, students will receive a grade + 6 credits for the language course they have completed. If, however, the student does not continue with language course for the second semester, he/she will lose 6 credits and the grade for the first semester.  The grade and 6 credits will be removed from the student’s transcript and the student will not be allowed to take an overload of 6 credits in a subsequent semester unless he/she pays for that overload.

 Take two courses of Arts – 12 credits (Except for IBL and BA majors)  To get Bard certificate from BA and IBL – 12 credits of Art  IBL students might have an opportunity to receive BARD diploma majoring in Human Rights. For detailed information please contact program head of IBL program. (check as there is planned to be announcement made about a meeting with program head about the Human Rights program).

 Admits 2015 are expected to fulfill sport class requirement 400 hours: 100 hours per semester. This means student has to take sport class four semesters. There is zero credit load for sport class.  Student can only take one sport class per one semester  BUT if student took sport class and got grade NON PASS s/he has to pay for the next sport ‘s class

 Students, who do any sport activities outside the university, and students, who have health issues and are not allowed to do sports, must sign up for Jogging PHE 127 class and must provide the General Education Department room 314 with the certificate and the load will be counted toward your degree.  Medical and Sport certificates (spravka) are accepted ONLY to Jogging sport course.  Submission deadline: November 23, (General Education Program)

 Individual courses are offered for additional fee  Musical individual courses - 2 cr.  2 cr. load musical courses fee is 135$  2cr. load for other individual courses, the fee is 235 $. Examples of individual music classes:  Komuz  Guitar  Singing  Piano

 History of Kyrgyzstan should be taken during sophomore year only.  Students will have two opportunities of taking the state exam in History of Kyrgyzstan: 1. at the end of the fall semester of sophomore year 2. at the end of the spring semester of sophomore year

 September 1st- September 11, 2015  During this period a student may request his/her study card from the Registrar Office, in case the student need to change anything in his/her schedule  Usually Add/Drop period is a period during which students can change their schedule, by taking some classes instead of the previously registered or cancelled ones.

 The deadline for “W” grade is the 10 th week of Fall semester. Reasons for taking “W”:  Your GPA is in Serious Danger (high risk to get an “F”)  You’re Just Plain Overwhelmed Deadline for “W” grade for Semester FALL 2015 is November 6 th Read extended explanation about this grade on the Webpage of the Registrar’s Office.  If you really need to receive this grade print the special form in advance, since you will have to receive professor’s signature.  The link for the form:

 Usually if there is a credit deficit, student may take summer school classes Dates for Summer school 2015: TBA Registration date: TBA Add/Drop Period :TBA Cost of summer school will be announced
