F-1 VISA How do I get the F-1 VISA? -Apply and be accepted for electives -make sure the institution deals with International Students and VISAS -make sure the institution deals with International Students and VISAS -the Office of Registrar or Office of International Services should know the F-1 VISA, they should have the ability to issue a SEVIS form SEVIS – Student and Exchange Visitor Information System

F-1 VISA How does the process work? -You apply for a SEVIS (student and exchange visitor information system) form (Form I-20AB), this is issued by the Institution that you will be doing your elective at -Once you have a SEVIS form you can travel to the US, show customs this form and they will issue you an F-1 VISA (you pay US $6.00 for an entrance card)

F-1 VISA Important Points: - F-1 VISA is only good for the duration of your elective (and 60 days after that) - Each institution you do electives at MUST issue you the SEVIS form - If you must travel during your F-1 VISA period, always take your SEVIS form

F-1 VISA MCCEE and your status in the USA MCCEE and your status in the USA -most likely during your stay and between electives you will write the MCCEE -most likely during your stay and between electives you will write the MCCEE -make sure that your F-1 VISA is current -if your d/s (duration of stay) has expired meaning that your elective has finished, and eventhough the VISA is good for 60 days after you WILL have problems in returning to the US to complete the rest of your electives -so… what do you do? -be registered for your next elective and have the SEVIS form with you when you return to the states or make sure your VISA is current
