QUESTIONNAIRES. Data is collected on questionnaires usually by paper or online. There are many different ways to ask a question for example; Open questions: This allows a long, more detailed answer which is usually different depending on your opinion. An example of one of these questions could be ‘How do you think the world was created ?’ Closed questions: ‘Do you usually have breakfast ?’ These questions allow a short direct answer usually yes or no to display data. Closed questions could also be multiply choice. Questionnaires on a computer are usually created online.

OPTICAL MARK RECOGNITION (OMR) Optical Mark Recognition is the process of capturing data from document forms for example surveys or tests. The Optical Mark Recognition scans the survey reads the information and copies the data onto a computer or electronic device. They are most often used for applying for University. Scanner picture from ptical_mark_recognition This needs an optical mark recognition machine to scan the paper and transfer the data.

WEB PAGES What is a web page? A web page is a document connected to the ‘world wide web’ through a hyperlink. They can contain nearly anything; from long descriptive texts, to photo gallery's, to videos on how to cook octopus. Who can create a web page? Anyone, there are many ways to create web pages, there are even web pages on how to create web pages. Cookies A small piece of data sent from a website called a cookie (also known as an web cookie, HTTP cookie, or browser cookie), is stored in a user's web browser while the user is looking at the website. Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends the cookie back to the server to tell the website of the user's previous activity.

Sensors What is a sensor ?  A sensor is a device which detects and measures a property and records/indicates/or responds to it. Examples of sensors A sensor measures a specific data and sends a signal to the computer. Usually this is an ‘analogue’ signal so it needs to be converted into ‘digital’ data for the computer to process

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is the electronic or mechanical conversion of scanned/photographed images of typewritten or printed text into machine-encoded/computer- readable text. It’s widely used as a form of data entry from some sort of original paper data source; bank statement, whether passport documents, receipts, business cards, mail, invoices, or most printed records.

Bar codes Bar codes are the most common use of data input. They can be found on many different types of goods; Newspapers Books, Magazines, Food products Clothes etc.

QR codes What is the general size of a QR code? Generally, the larger the QR Code, the easier it is for it to be scanned, however most QR reading devices are able to scan images that are small enough to fit on a business card for example. You can scan a QR code of your phone or you can buy scanners.

RFID Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is the use of radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object. Could be used in shops to read the price of an item. Printers, tags, labels and inlays are supported by RFID services to guarantee system performance.

NFC NFC is a form of wireless communication that allows data to be transferred from one computer to another. The technology, comes in three ways: - tag reader and writer - device to device - card emulation.
