Modern Medicine vs. Holistic alternatives By Erika Hummel

-Americans spend $200 billion a year on prescription drugs. -Death from prescription drug side effects is now the 4 th leading cause of death in the United States according to the American Medical Association. -Between , prescriptions for stimulants alone increased from 5 million to 45 million.

Holistic medicine is ultimately safer and more effective than Western Modern Medicine.

What is Holistic Medicine? The American Holistic Medical Association describes holistic medicine as: “The art and science of healing that addresses care of the whole person- body, mind and spirit. It promotes optimal health to prevent and heal disease.”

The root of a problem is analyzed as opposed to only treating the symptoms of the issue. The Patient must do the work to see results. Holistic medicine focuses on making lifestyle changes, changing beliefs and old habits in order to facilitate healing.

Holistic practices include:

The Dangers of Prescription Drugs -The stage of testing is usually sponsored by the same company that makes the drug creating biases. -As of the 1980’s now drug company employees or agents design the studies, perform the analysis, write the papers and decide what to publish.

Where are these drugs coming from? -Most prescription drugs are imported from other countries. -These factories and their safety regulations are not usually monitored by the FDA. -After drugs have been manufactured, they are not usually tested for contaminants.

Western Medicine Has Become Profit Driven

Commercials and ads appeal to all with any ailment. “Yes…I am tired, I do feel anxious sometimes…there must be something wrong with me…I want to be happy and energetic again like these people on TV.”
