 Rocks are all around us: in our backyards, on mountains, in rivers and oceans, on the beaches, at the lakes, under the ground, in volcanoes, etc. Can you think of a place where you have seen rocks?

 Large rocks are called boulders.  Medium size rocks can be called stones.

 Smaller rocks are called pebbles.  Rocks can be crushed into even smaller rocks called gravel. Have you seen a gravel road?

Sand is on the beaches. Sand is in an hour glass.Sand is moved in a sand truck. Where is it going?

 Sand is used in concrete and bricks.  Sand is used in glass like windows, and the walls of homes. It is called sheetrock.

 Rocks can be made into silt which has very small pieces of rocks in it.  Over time, rocks can erode and mix with minerals. This forms into clay. The rocks in the clay are very, very, tiny.

Boulders Gravel Clay Stones Sand Pebbles Silt Can you name them from the smallest to the largest?

 Many buildings are made from rocks and stones.  Some homes are made of rocks and stones.

A fireplace can be made of rocks and stones. Some walls are made of rocks.

 Bridges are made of concrete. Some roads are made of concrete.

 Some statues are made of rocks or stones.  Have you seen a statue? Where?

Headstones can be made of granite, a type of rock, or concrete. Columns and pillars can be made of rocks and stones which are held together with mortar.

Silt is used to make bricks Clay is used to make and concrete. pottery such as bowls and plate s. Also, clay is used to make bricks..
