Young Women Today. Leaders Tomorrow.

 A school for young ladies  Grades 6-12  No more than 75 students per grade  Class size limited to 25 students  Focused on college readiness with three framing values:  Leadership  College Success  Healthy Life Skills  Modeled after the Young Women’s Leadership Academy – East Harlem  Operate as a School of Choice

 Wilmington Leadership Academy for Young Women will be a public private partnership between the New Hanover County Board of Education/New Hanover County Schools and the Board of Young Women Leading, Inc.  The Chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Education will serve as the district’s representative to the Board of Young Women Leading, Inc.  Board of Education Chairman and NHCS Superintendent will each appoint members to the YWL Advisory Committee, which will guide and monitor efforts to align school operations and practices with the core values of the partnership.  YWL will provide a variety of service and program enhancements.

 Informational meetings  Board  Funding:  Current - $500,000 to begin the process  Goal - $2.0 million by the end of October 2013  Plans to visit Leadership Academies in New York and Texas  New York City Academies Visit:  Board of Education Chairman Don Hayes  Board of Education Member Lisa Estep  City of Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo  District Attorney Ben David  UNCW Representatives

 Finalize and establish a partnership between Board of Education and the Board of Young Women Leading, Inc.  Formalize Memorandum of Understanding between Board of Education and the Board of Young Women Leading, Inc.

 October – December 2013  Complete visits to other academies  Discuss and approve Memorandum of Understanding  July 2014  Hire Principal and Caseworker  July 2015  Open School
