Presentation transcript:

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions Directions: Your poem must have THREE stanzas of FIVE lines each. The first FOUR lines of each stanza must begin with a subordinating conjunction BUT IT CANNOT BE A COMPLETE THOUGHT. The LAST line of the stanza CANNOT begin with a subordinating conjunction AND must be a COMPLETE THOUGHT.

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions (details, details, details….) The first word of each line must begin with a capital letter. The first four lines are punctuated with a comma. The last line is punctuated with a period.

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions LETS SEE AN EXAMPLE!

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions After I tee the ball up, As soon as I take back the club, Before I swing through, While I hesitate, I think about my next shot. As soon as I approach the ball, When I choose my club, Where I am going to aim, Wherever the ball ends up, I will play this hole well. In order to line up my ball, As much as I think about it, So that it goes in, Because I am a good putter, I played this hole fabulously.

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions LETS SEE ANOTHER EXAMPLE!

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions Whenever I get up, After the alarm clock has gone off, Before the sun comes up, As I stumble to the shower, I slowly get ready for school. When I arrive to school, As I am talking to my friends, Before classes begin, While I do my work, I long to back in my cozy bed. Before the three oclock bell rings, As my mind wanders, While I write down this last assignment, Because my last hour class is nearly over, I know I am just about home free.

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions Use as many different subordinating conjunctions as you can. Remember to use your graphic organizer or page 422 in your textbook. This is class work. Work on it now. Once you are done with your poem, you will need to draw an illustration to go with it. Whatever you do not finish, youll need to complete for homework.

Poetry & Subordinating Conjunctions GOOD LUCK!
