 Rock are EVERYWHERE!  Technically speaking, they are…  Solid  Naturally occurring  Made of minerals or mineral type materials

 Some are made of just one kind of mineral:  Pyrite (aka Fool’s Gold)  Quartz  Some are made of several different kinds of minerals:  Granite

 Rocks are put into 3 different groups:  Igneous  Metamorphic  Sedimentary

 Rocks are always changing  Each type of rock can change into another type  Example: Igneous can become Metamorphic  Rocks change with time, heat, and pressure

 The rock cycle describes the process by which rocks change with heat and pressure  The arrows show how each type of rock changes and what it changes into  The rock cycle is always happening and never stops
