Timeline of Service syvw Bhai Nand Lal Jee writes in his poetry that if one word could describe and summarise Sri Guru Ram Das Sahib Jee's life, that word be "SEVA" (SELFLESS SERVICE).

As a child Known as Bhai Jetha (before he became Sri Guru Ram Das Jee), he was only 7 years old when both his parents died. He was taken in by his grandmother and wasn’t lucky enough to go to school and worked hard selling Indian sweets. TASK 1: Stick this on your time line. TASK 2: Identify and describe two reasons why it’s important to serve your family.

As a teen Fortunately Sri Guru Amar Das Jee adopted Bhai Jetha, who learnt Gurmukhi and would do seva for Guru Jee and the Sadh-Sangat (holy congregation) in the early morning and then work in langar for the rest of the day. TASK 1: Stick this on your timeline TASK 2: Identify and describe two reasons why learning Gurmukhi is essential for every Sikh. TASK 3: Identify and describe two reasons why it is important to serve Guru Jee and Sadh Sangat.

A-Z of Seva ABCDEFGHIJKLMABCDEFGHIJKLM NOPQRSTUVWXYZNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

In his 20s He actively helped Sri Guru Amar Das Jee in his works including the founding of the city of Goindwal and the construction of the deep well (Baoli Sahib) as a welfare project. Sri Guru Amar Das Jee was impressed by Bhai Jetha’s devotion and service that he had his daughter Bibi Bhani married to Bhai Jetha Ji. TASK 1: Stick this on your timeline.

Sri Guru Ram Das Jee gave us the definition of a Sikh..... He who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru, Shall rise early in the morning and meditate on the Name of God, Shall take a bath to cleanse the mind of evil in the Nectar pool of God’s Name, Shall labour during the day, Shall hear the words of the Guru and respect the Name of God, For then will his sins be forgiven and his sorrow and suffering cease, With the advance of the day he shall sing the hymns of the Guru and keep God in his mind in all that he does, He who remembers the Name of God with every breath and with every morsel that he eats, He is the True Sikh, him the Guru loves, He to whom the Lord is Gracious, listens to the teachings of the Guru and becomes his disciple. REFLECT: How many of these things do you do? What can you do more of?

Baoli Sahib is found at Govindwal at the site built by Sri Guru Amar Das Jee. This has 84 steps denoting the 84 lakh (which is written as 8,400,000 or 8.4 million) species of life forms on Earth. Each step is thought to represent 100,000 life forms of a possible 8.4 million existences. Many devotees visiting Baoli Sahib recite the hymn of "Jap Jee Sahib" on each step. They descend to bathe, perform ablution, and return to the next step, performing 84 recitations in the hope of being liberated. Baoli Sahib

84 steps to Guru Jee display We would like to make an OPS Footstep display. TASK: On your footstep write down/draw ANYTHING we can do to get one step closer to Guru Jee. (type of seva, a bani/a, help the sangat, dasvand, use your A-Z etc) THINK ABOUT what Sri Guru Ram Das Jee did and said about being a good Sikh. Use the video to help too.

Service with a smile! TASK 1: Let’s read the Sakhi together. TASK 2: In your own words write down what the message of the Sakhi is.

Sri Darbar Sahib Jee: ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ Sri Guru Ram Das Jee eagerly continued the building of the city of Ramdaspur (the abode of Ram Das) by the digging of the second sacred pool as he had been instructed by Sri Guru Amar Das Jee. Pilgrims came in ever growing numbers to hear the Guru and to help in the excavation work of the tank. The holy tank would be called Amritsar meaning pool of nectar. Today the city of Ramdaspur, which now is the holiest centre of Sikhism has come to be know as Amritsar. TASK 1: Stick the description on your timeline TASK 2: Why should we not call Sri Harmandir Sahib ਹਰਿਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ - ‘The Golden Temple’? TASK 3: Why does Sri Harmandir Sahib have 4 entrances?

What is happening here? Kar Seva

Niskham Seva Sri Guru Ram Das Jee emphasised seva and charity, he was a self-made man, who came to Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji as a helpless orphan, but due to his devotion and humility was elevated to the position of Guru. His life is a beacon to the Sikhs that anyone of them can gain spiritual stature by discipline and selfless service. List 5 reasons why selfless service is vital for every Sikh regardless of age:

Homework TASK 1: Draw, paint or create your own drawing of Sri Harmandir Sahib TASK 2: Research 5 facts about Sri Harmandir Sahib Jee. This could include other Gurdwara Sahibs in the complex, other sarovars and their meaning. DEADLINE:
