Animals Birds survive by migrating in the winter. The Arctic Fox changes with the seasons to stay camouflaged to sneak up and attack their prey. King salmon is the state fish of Alaska.

Plants Alaska plants have big long roots so they can go deep into the soil so they can get water. The only area plants can’t grow is the timberline, which is where the altitude is so high that plants can not grow any more. Alaskan plants have to survive hot summers and very harsh winters.

The Northern Lights The Northern lights are one of the main things that attracts people to go to Alaska. The Northern lights surprise people every time they see them even if they see them every night.

Interesting Facts Alaska superimposed over the other states is bigger than 47 of them. Alaska contains 17 out of 20 highest peaks in the United States. Alaska is the biggest state in the U.S but has the smallest population ( it’s population is even smaller than Rhode Island ).
