IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! DANCE STEPS PART THREE!

#1 FOLDING DANCE STEP- BENDING OVER NOTES- FOLDING IS THE BENDING OF ROCK LAYERS BECAUSE OF STRESS IN THE EARTH’S CRUST

#2- ANTICLINE DANCE STEP- UPWARD HILL MOTION/THE CREST NOTES- ANTICLINES ARE UPWARD ARCHING FOLDS

#3- SYNCLINES DANCE STEP- DOWNWARD MOTION/BOTTOM OF THE HILL/THE TROUGH NOTES- SYNCLINES ARE DOWNWARD, TROUGH-LIKE FOLDS

#4- FAULT DANCE STEP- SLIDING MOTION/KARATE CHOP AND BREAK NOTES- THE SURFACE ALONG WHICH ROCKS BREAK AND SLIDE PAST EACH OTHER IS CALLED A FAULT.

#5- NORMAL FAULT DANCE STEP- PULL APART NOTES- WHEN ROCKS ARE PULLED APART BECAUSE OF TENSION, NORMAL FAULTS OFTEN FORM FUN=FOOTWALL UP/HANGING WALL DOWN NORMAL FAULT LIKE A DIVERGENT PLATE BOUNDARY

#6- REVERSE FAULT DANCE STEP- PUSH TOGETHER NOTES- WHEN ROCKS ARE PUSHED TOGETHER BY COMPRESSION, REVERSE FAULTS OFTEN FORM FDR=FOOTWALL DOWN/HANGING WALL UP, REVERSE FAULT LIKE A CONVERGENT PLATE BOUNDARY

#7- STRIKE-SLIP FAULT DANCE STEP- HANDS STRIKE EACH OTHER/SLIDE AND SLIP BY NOTES=FORM WHEN OPPOSING FORCES CAUSE ROCK TO BREAK AND MOVE HORIZONTALLY LIKE A TRANSFORM PLATE BOUNDARY

#8- FOLDED MOUNTAINS DANCE STEP- SQUEEZE TOGETHER/PUSH UP/ RISE WAY, WAY UP NOTES= FOLDED MOUNTAINS ARE THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN RANGES IN THE WORLD AND FORM AT CONVERGENT BOUNDARIES WHERE CONTINENTS HAVE COLLIDED. THEY FORM WHEN LAYERS OF ROCK ARE SQUEEZED TOGETHER AND PUSH UPWARD. EXAMPLE- APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS

#9- FAULT-BLOCK MOUNTAINS DANCE STEP- STRETCH, DROP DOWN NOTES= FAULT-BLOCK MOUNTAINS FORM WHEN TENSION CAUSES LARGE BLOCKS OF EARTH’S CRUST TO DROP DOWN RELATIVE TO OTHER BLOCKS. EXAMPLE-THE TETONS IN WYOMING

#10-VOLCANIC MOUNTAINS DANCE STEP- OCEANIC CRUST SINKS INTO ASTHENOSPHERE/ SAY “I’M MELTING”/MAGMA RISES/ERUPTION SOUND AND MOTION NOTES= THESE ARE LOCATED AT CONVERGENT BOUNDARIES WHERE OCEANIC CRUST SINKS INTO THE ASTHENOSPHERE AT SUBDUCTION ZONES. THE ROCK IS MELTED, FORMS MAGMA, RISES TO THE SURFACE AND ERUPTS TO FORM THESE. CAN FORM UNDER SEA OR ABOVE TO BECOME ISLANDS. MOST VOLCANIC MOUNTAINS=RING OF FIRE=PACIFIC OCEAN

#11- UPLIFT DANCE STEP- RISING OF CRUST/RISING UP NOTES= THE RISING OF REGIONS OF EARTH’S CRUST TO HIGHER ELEVATIONS IS UPLIFT

#13- TECTONIC PLATE DANCE STEP- DRAW A SQUARE(BLOCK), EATING BREAD MOTION(CRUST), AND HOLDING UP “3” (3 PARTS OF MANTLE) NOTES= A TECTONIC PLATE IS A BLOCK OF LITHOSPHERE THAT CONSISTS OF THE CRUST AND THE RIGID, OUTERMOST PART OF THE MANTLE…MOVES SLOW CM PER YEAR

#12- SUBSIDENCE DANCE STEP- SINKING MOTION/ LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW NOTES= THE SINKING OF REGIONS OF EARTH’S CRUST TO LOWER ELEVATIONS IS THIS.

#14-RIDGE PUSH DANCE STEP- SKIING DOWNHILL/ SAY “ISAAC NEWTON” NOTES= BECAUSE OF RIDGE PUSH, THE OCEANIC LITHOSPHERE SLIDES DOWNHILL UNDER THE FORCE OF GRAVITY

#15- CONVECTION DANCE STEP- WARM AIR RISES/COOL AIR SINKS/ SLIDE TO THE LEFT/SLIDE TO THE RIGHT NOTES= CONVECTION CAUSES THE OCEANIC LITHOSPHERE TO MOVE SIDEWAYS AND AWAY FROM THE MID-OCEAN RIDGE

#16- SLAB PULL DANCE STEP- PULL DOWN NOTES= OCEANIC LITHOSPHERE IS DENSER THAN THE ASTHENOSPHERE SO THE EDGE OF THE TECTONIC PLATE THAT CONTAINS OCEANIC LITHOSPHERE SINKS AND PULLS THE REST OF THE TECTONIC PLATE WITH IT
