Using Publisher to Create a Web Site Mr. Sandford’s U. S. History Class
Most Important! Create Your Folder First In your U:drive, create a Folder labeled with your last name, first name that will hold your web page and resources, such as pictures. In this folder create another new folder called pictures. It is here that you will save all of your pictures.
Do not copy and paste pictures— you must save pictures as files to be inserted later. Insert > Picture> From File >your name folder >Picture folder
Name your main folder—you can create it on the desktop, be sure to move it to your U:drive

Click Web Sites on the Publisher Menu and Select a Template
Use the Wizard to Select Colors
Customize Your Web Page and Click Next

Select Area for Change—Use Web Site Wizard for Features
To Temporarily Save Your Work If you are not finished with creating your web page and want to come back to it at a later date, select File > Save As Locate your main folder with your name in your U:drive, open it and save this file in it. You must supply a name for this file. Use one word and lower case. My example is “test”
CAUTION: ONLY USE “SAVE AS A WEB PAGE” WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE CHANGES TO MAKE! ONCE YOU USE THIS FEATURE, YOU CAN NO LONGER EDIT YOUR SITE.
Making Changes to Your Site Open the Publisher document (test) in your main folder. You can continue to add or delete information to your site. Remember, use Save As if you are not ready to convert your work to html.
Ready to Convert to html Are you finished making changes? If so, let’s transform your Publisher file to a web or html file.
To Save, Select “Save As Web Page”
Publisher Supplies the Name of the Folder and the Pathway— Click OK
Your Web Folder—What You Just Did and What You Still Need To Do You have automatically saved your web page to a folder named “Publish”. It went to “My Documents” on the “C” drive. Windows ’98 users: When you log off you will lose your work if you are on a (white computer) due to Deep Freeze. You MUST Copy and Paste the folder “Publish” to your main (your name) folder in your U: drive so your work will not be lost.
To Do This Right Click on the Folder “Publish” or Select Edit Select “Copy” Open your U:drive and select your main (your name) folder. Select Paste Be sure the folder and its contents are pasted into your U: drive.
Last Step—Copy Folder to Mr. Sandford’s Public Folder When you are ready to transfer your website to Mr. Sandford for publishing onto his web page Right click on your main folder (your name) Select Copy At Start button > Select Run > type \\hsfp1\public > Open Mr. Sandford’s folder > Paste \\hsfp1\public
