Welcome to the Y2K parent information meeting!

My name is Miss Kirby (Anna) I have previously worked in KS1 up the road in Woodsetts Primary and worked alongside Anston Brooke Staff. I spent the past year teaching in a Year 3 class My degree was in Early Childhood Studies I will always try to provide a comfortable, positive and tailored classroom environment for all the children

Topic is called ‘To the Rescue’ and we will cover a variety of areas within this like people who help us, superheroes and Florence Nightingale In Science we will be looking at materials and the different properties In literacy we have been looking at extending the children’s writing and moving them into level 2/3 writers by using connectives in sentences In Maths we have been looking at basic number formation and moving into subtraction and word problems

P.E. days are Monday afternoons so P.E. kits need to be in school for this session Following a Governors meeting, they have decided that School Uniform is compulsory A reminder that children are only allowed to wear stud earrings and a watch but no other jewellery KS1 are now all eligible for free school meals Milk forms need to be filled out/paid for again now it’s a new term The newsletter and other information will be available on the website

School diaries, Reading Records and Books need to come back every day and go home every night I will make a general comment on the week in the children’s diaries on a Thursday to go home It can be used as a messaging system between myself and you It holds information such as attendance, levels and spelling test results

Each child has a homework book which I will put the activity in for them to take home on a Friday The homework will be linked to something we have done during the week; it could be Literacy, Maths, Phonics, Topic or Grammar Spellings will be stuck in their homework book as well for them to practice for the test on a Monday afternoon The homework book needs to come back on a Monday to have new spellings put in and then back in on a Thursday at the latest for me to be able to leave a comment and stick new homework in

In year 2 the children take SATs near the end of the spring term It’s a national test and the end result is a mixture of the results and teacher assessment They will do a SAT in Reading, Writing and Maths – the national level that they are aiming for is to be as close as we can to a 2B by the end of the year The SATs are independent and so we are trying to encourage more and more independent work; if you could try to encourage this during morning tasks and homework then that would be great

To support with the children’s development we have set up a variety of interventions during P.E. and morning assemblies The interventions are there to address any misunderstandings or struggles from previous lessons and give time for any extra bits that will push on their learning Attendance and punctuality is key so that they are here on time to attend the interventions There are new reward systems in place for attendance

Friday 26 th September – Training Day School Closed Monday 13 th October – Parent open week where there will be lessons which you can book in to come and sit in to see how a lesson is structured Friday 24 th October – Last day of school before Half Term week Monday 3 rd November – Back in School and start of Careers Week Thursday 20 th November – Parents evening 3:30-7:30pm Thursday 9 th December – KS1 Christmas Concert Friday 19 th December – Last day of school before Christmas Holidays
