WHO, WHERE, WHAT, HOW, AND WHY? Welcome to Sra. Martín’s Spanish class!

WHO… AM I? *Stephanie Martín *23 years in the district *I have taught students from 1 st through 12 th grades

WHERE… DID I STUDY/LEARN SPANISH? *I began my studies in high school (for the native St. Louisans – Cor Jesu Academy) *I received my BA from the University of Tulsa, after completing my Junior year at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid *I received my Master’s from Washington University

WHAT… AM I TEACHING? ADVANCED SPANISH HONORS… Students engage in a variety of activities that are designed to increase their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing while deepening their understanding of language and culture. These activities include: reading authentic texts; listening to conversations by native speakers on a variety of topics; writing informal and formal compositions; discussing, debating and presenting. In addition, students will complete a comprehensive review of advanced grammatical structures in Spanish.

WHAT… WILL STUDENTS DO? THEY WILL: -use advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary and expressions to: engage in conversations, exchange opinions, express feelings and emotions, and provide and obtain information (spoken and written) -understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics

-present information to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics - reinforce and further their knowledge of the elements of literature and composition, through the study of these concepts in Spanish -demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures studied

HOW WILL STUDENTS BE ASSESSED? Homework, quizzes, tests, projects, presentations, etc… 80% Oral Participation, daily preparation…10% Daily assignments, binder checks… 10% FINAL EXAM … 20% SEMESTER GRADE CHS’S ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED!

WHY AM I TEACHING? *”Sólo quiero regalar un trocito de mi verdad”… El Canto del Loco *My own studies of Spanish language and culture changed my life. * I honestly, thoroughly enjoy working with my students – your children. It is never boring! I always learn something new.
