Two Ways to Approach A Process Paper Directional  How to do something  Gives directions to readers so they can perform the process.  Can be written in second person or third person.  Imperative mood: a command with an understanding subject “you”  Chronological Informational  How something works.  How something occurred.  How to explain a psychological process.  Gain understanding of the process, not necessarily to perform it.  In order of importance

Thesis Statements The thesis sentence in the introduction of a process essay must state the process to be explained and express a point of view (opinion, attitude, or judgment) about that process.

Just the facts please!  DO get your facts straight and find supporting data to build ethos in what you’re saying.  DO use who, what, when, where, and why to plan.  DON’T use second person YOU for this paper.  DO write about something that interests you.  DO add warning’s, tips, and what NOT to do.  DON’T forget to take yourself through the process so you can catch any missed steps.  DO use MLA format with a work cited page.
