Terrell Independent School District Leadership Development Initiative

Goals A. To promote a new program that produces educational leaders in Terrell ISD B. To be able to develop educational leaders that have been observed and documented locally C. To be able to train and retain the services of current expert educators

Rationale A.A shortage of administrators is looming due to an ever-increasing number of baby boomers that will be retiring B.Be able to meet the upcoming shortage with highly qualified administrators

Selection of candidates to begin Spring 2003 A. In order to apply 1.Have to have completed 3 years as a certified teacher 2.Have GRE scores on file meeting Texas A&M – Commerce’s standards

B. Application 1.Formal written including resume 2.Three letters of recommendation required

C.Interviews 1.Campus level – to include principal, teacher and personnel director 2.District level – superintendent 3.A core group of 10 will be selected

D.Accepted candidates reviewed and approved by school board

Implementation A. Cohort to start in the Fall 2003 and will end May 2005 B. Wednesday nights 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for classes and Monday nights 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for internship time all the way through the program

C.Requirements for tuition and books to be paid for by TISD 1. Have to complete program 2. When program is completed, two years are committed to the district 3. Have to take and pass EXCET within 1 year of program completion Note: Failure to complete above requirements will result in reimbursement of all tuition, fees, and book monies to Terrell ISD

D. Cost=$350/course X 15 courses X 10 people, Books=$1500/person

Content A. Lead by TAMU-Commerce including classes listed by the Educational Administration Department to earn a Principal’s Certificate B. Internship to be taken at a lighter pace but throughout entire 21-month period.
