The Role and Significance of Physical Activity A virtual tour with Tiff and Tim

The top five sports played in clubs by boys aged 5 to 17 are: 17% Soccer 16% Rugby union 14% Swimming 8% Cricket 8% Hockey The top five sports played in clubs by girls aged 5 to 17 are: 17% Swimming 13% Netball 10% Horse riding 8% Tennis 6% Soccer Taken from SPARC website But whats the significance of this information when it only takes into account organised sports in schools or clubs?

SPARC indicated that young people are looking for experiences that: create opportunities for social interaction; promote inclusiveness; facilitate a healthy lifestyle; let them test themselves and their physical limits; encourage ongoing participation; provide support to learn and develop; provide opportunities to engage in social or non-competitive sport and recreation; do not take up too much of their time; and are respectful of their needs and interests and things that matter to them.

Last year, the Government invested $82 million in the KiwiSport programme to try to lift activity rates through SPORT. Stay and Play Study indicated: 70% of kids drop out of SPORT between % indicate they are highly likely to drop out of SPORT 50% dont do any SPORT BUT These results only refer to sport – what about other physical activities?
