Why take AP Seminar?? It will give your child the opportunity to dig deeper and feed your curiosity through meaningful discoveries and discussions.

What are the benefits of taking the AP Capstone Course? Fosters the critical and creative thinking, argumentation, and research skills at the core of college readiness and essential for lifelong learning Provides a setting to build on the knowledge and rigorous course work of AP in an interdisciplinary format Offers a unique opportunity to distinguish oneself to colleges and universities

In this class your child will… 1. READ articles, research studies, and foundational, literary, and philosophical texts; view and listen to speeches, broadcasts, etc 2. work collaboratively with a team to identify, investigate, analyze, and evaluate a real-world or academic issue. 3. work independently to identify a research question based on provided stimulus material. 4. WRITE!!!

Overview This is a yearlong course, But this is not your typical AP class, is course is NOT about content, it is about skills! Fall semester: Focuses on learning AP seminar SKILLS Spring semester: 2 AP performance tasks (one is a group project, one is an “independent study type of task) and we will prep for the AP seminar Exam. NO MULITPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS on the AP EXAM.

AP Grade 5 = extremely well qualified 4 = well qualified 3 = qualified 2 = possibly qualified 1 = no recommendation "Qualified" means that you have proven yourself capable of doing the work of an introductory-level course in a particular study at college. To receive credit for AP Seminar you must earn a 3 or above.

AP Grade Group Research Project and Presentation – 25% This course is different from all other AP courses in that the AP grade is not determined solely by an exam at the end of the year. During the spring semester, students will work on the two in-class AP Performance Tasks. In May, students will take the AP Seminar written exam. The grade breakdown is as follows: Group Research Project and Presentation – 25% Individual Research Project and Presentation – 35% AP Exam – 40%
