 Information update on Benchmark scores  De-brief on DBQ essay from last class  Intro to new topic – America Oversee’s  5 Card Draw strategy  Map of Cuba and the Caribbean modeling strategy with Think Aloud  Prep for homework on Map of the World.. You will be able t start in class and finish  Closure

 I will be grading the DBQ and document question answers over the next week.  By the end of next week I will be able to have the bubble sheets recorded so that you may find out your overall score for the Benchmark.  De-brief about the DBQ essay on Immigration  What will you do next time?

 How do we show as a people how well off we are or how well we are doing?  What are some status material items that showcase how well people are ?  How does a nation show that it is doing well?  What are some status material items that showcase how well a nation is ?

 Today we are going to become aware of geographic places in the world that are important during the late 1800’a early 1900s.  You will need to locate your other “ pair”. They will have the same color and place on their card.  Once you find each other, brainstorm why your location will be important to the USA. Be ready to show on a map where your location is and your answer.

 When you think of Cuba what do you think of?  When you think of the Caribbean what do you think of?

 Let’s take a look and let me model how to do this type of map activity with you.  You will need to turn to page 686 in your textbook for help.  The directions are to write the correct name of the location # on the line below.  You will not be “ labeling the map” like in the past.  Here we go !!!

 You can start your individual practice with the Map of the World.  You will need to use the textbook page 681, ref 2 and 686 to help you out. Yes, you may talk with your neighbor as you work. Turn in when you are done, if you do not finish, yes this will be homework !!

 I need to check for understanding and this is a great way to collect some data !

 What are some ways that a country shows other countries that it is wealthy and doing well?  What are some of the geographic places that will be of interest to us during this time period?  Pick one place and imagine why the USA will become involved there?
