Ecology Holland Part 1

Question: Which types of soil are in the ground? Hypothesis: we expected te lower layers of ground to be more wet and more clay like. Which materials drill piece of white plastic Tape measure Sandwich bags blackmarker

Results: Conclusion: Our question has been answered cause we have learned the different layers. We also accept our hypothesis LayersType of soildept 1st layerSandSurface - 20 cm 2nd layerSand mixed with loam 20 cm- 40 cm 3rd layerLoam mixed with clay 40 cm -60 cm 4rd layerClay, groundwate r 60 cm – 100 cm

Experiment 14: soil determenation Question: which type of ground? Hypothesis: we expect the ground to be clay like. Conclusion: the ground we examined seems to be “vaaggrond”. We accept the hypothesis, the soil is like clay.

Experiment 19 organic matter content Question: which percentage of the soil sample will burn and be gone. Hypothesis : we expect that half of the sample will burn and that we will have only half of it. material : glow spoon soil sample Bunsen burner Scale

Results: Conclusion: The question is answered by those results, we accept our hypothesis cause about half of the sample has burnt. Weight of spoon77.3 gr Weight of spoon + sample91 gr Weight of sample before13.7 gr Weight of sample after6.5 gr Weight of burnt matter7.2 gr Percentage organic matter7.2/10X100% = 72% Percentage organic matter in dry soil 7.2/13.7X100% =52.55%

Experiment 20: grain size Question: What size of the grain? Hypothesis: We expect much variation Material: - soil sample - sevenset

Results: Conclusion: There is much variation in the grain size. The hypothesis was right. SizeWeightPercentage of total Unreadable8,9 gram60,5% 450 μ m3,1 gram21% 225μ m1,7 gram11,1% 105μ m0,7 gram4,8% Unreadable0,3 gram2,1% Total14,7 gram100%

Experiment 21: pH-rate Question: What is the pH-rate? Hypothesis: We expect just above 7 Material: - soil sample - glass - pH-counter Conclusion: The pH-rate is 7,84, so we were near to this one
