Future Jobs Fund Central Government Initiative Introduced in 2009 to help address long term youth unemployment. 100,000 people aged 18 – 24 year who had been unemployed for one year or more were guaranteed a job for 6 months. plus 50,000 people of all ages in selected unemployment hotspots A grant of £6,500 per person was offered to employers towards wage costs. Participants had to work a minimum of 30 hours per week. At least the minimum wage had to be paid.

At ABLE 2 build (now Green Future Building Ltd) Six unemployed local residents from employment hotspots were recruited. Recruitment was through Job Centre Pus Paid more than the minimum wage After the first six months through Kirklees Council additional funding received To extend the scheme for a further 6 months for 2 of the trainees To train the 4 other trainees as Tutors with a qualification called PTLLS (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong learning Sector)

Impacts Nationally – report published last month showed that: Two years after starting their jobs with the scheme, participants were: 16% less likely to be on benefits than if they had not taken part, and 27% were more likely to be in unsubsidised employment. Green Future Building Ltd 100% success rate One of the participants left after the subsidized period as he secured employment. The other five are still with Green Future Building Ltd Three of them are now tutoring and mentoring other GFB trainees from the Youth Offending Team and on Skills for Climate Change training courses.
