Young North Public School A school that’s going places! Dear Prospective Young North PS Community Member, Thankyou for taking the time to consider our school and a partnership in learning at Young North Public School. In the information pack provided we have endeavoured to give important information that will help you make the very best decision for your child’s learning and ensure you have a current and informed view of the leading educational programs happening at Young North Public School. Young North is a school that is going places! In 2014 we were awarded the Minister for Education’s Cohesive Community Award. This saw us selected from all Public & Private schools K-12 across NSW. Young North also performed in the top 4% of schools in 2014 NAPLAN Growth Year 3-5. For the first time as Principal I have taken the time to put together what I feel is the most useful tool a parent needs when looking at schools. I have called it ‘Ten Important Questions You Need to Ask’. As a generation, we have been increasingly groomed as consumers. I think it is important to be informed consumers and I encourage you to look at this document and consider the important questions it guides you to ask of any educational setting you consider for your child. As a father of primary school aged children these are the questions I asked of myself before I selected schools for my children. I have very high and informed expectations and Young North PS measures up. Coming to school for the first time or transferring to a new school is a transition for three parties. A quality transition / orientation program considers the teacher who will welcome new faces, the parents who are heavily invested in this process and of course the student who embarks on an educational journey and partnership with their new school. At Young North Public School we have made it our business to make this transition time one that has success built in for all stakeholders. Young North Public School is a dynamic school that embraces leading educational programs. We have provided lots of information to you about these programs in this pack. I know that parents have diverse and very different views about what is important to them regarding schooling for their child. I also hope that the information provided here empowers you to challenge your thinking and broaden your thoughts about the modern day learner, educational contexts and the needs of the 21 st century worker. We indeed live in a fast paced, global world that will continue to evolve during your child’s schooling. It is fair to assume the jobs that our children will be engaged in have probably not been invented yet. Please feel free to make time to visit the school. I am only too happy to meet with you, show you around and answer any questions you may have. I am proud of Young North Public School and I work everyday with our great staff to make it an educational setting of the highest quality. Sincerely, Kel Smerdon Principal, Young North Public School
