MIDWest ACAC Conference May 20-22, 2012 – Dubuque, Iowa Megan L. Stull – Clarke University Jodi Kremer – Northeast Iowa Community College

…..and they are coming in large numbers … National shift Who are your transfer students? How well do you know them? Collect data on your transfer student population

Take advantage of community colleges in your back yard. Use Faculty to assist in your recruitment efforts. Identify their preferred way to be recruited - specificity is key. Scholarships & Financial Aid Articulation Agreements BUILD RELATIONSHIPS!!!!

Welcome! We’re so glad you are here! … at least we are acting like we are….now what…?? Culture Change Are inaccurate assumptions about transfer students influencing the culture of your campus?

2-year transfers aren’t prepared for academic rigor of 4- year schools. Transfer students don’t know what they want – can’t figure it out. They’ve already been in college and don’t need help transitioning to their new environment. Transfer students are not ‘our’ students. Transfer students are more likely to leave – again.

Student Life/Student Activities Office & their role in transition Engaged & involved student = happy student Orientation Programs specifically for transfer students Words of wisdom?

Assessment Satisfaction guaranteed …? Recruit and transition your students well - and retention should improve! Questions? Comments?
